Claremont Country EstateOffering luxury lodge accommodation and gracious hospitality with the backdrop of some of New Zealand’s most spectacular countryside, Claremont Country Estate is situated in the heart of Canterbury wine country, on a 2,400 acre working deer and sheep high country station, and lies amongst manicured gardens, nestled below New Zealand’s Southern Alps. Luxury accommodation in which to relax, unwind, pamper and enjoy yourself.
Originally built in 1866, Claremont has been restored to its former glory and is listed by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust. Spacious and inviting, Claremont’s five lodge suites offer luxury accommodation which are warmly furnished with antiques, rich fabrics and soft furnishings. Each suite has its own individual charm with country views, over the lovely park-like gardens and farmland to spectacular mountains beyond. The luxurious bathrooms are beautifully tiled and have large demist mirrors with theatrical lighting, claw foot baths big enough for two, separate stall showers and heated towel rails. Other touches to the rooms include fresh flowers, fresh fruit bowl, as well as coffee and tea making facilities.
For those guests travelling with younger children the property has an award winning, heritage style self-contained cottage with its own private garden, located within the grounds about 100m from the main building.
The gourmet menus feature locally-sourced organic produce and home-grown vegetables and fruit accompanied by fine, award-winning Waipara wines. The lodge’s pavilion dining room has views of the terraced gardens, natural stone-walled courtyards and fountain.
A not-to-be-missed experience is the Land Rover Safari unique to Claremont that takes in the spectacular geological features and natural wonders found on the property. This odyssey into pre-historic New Zealand transports guests back 65 million years to when dinosaurs roamed the globe, and includes the rare opportunity to see and touch fossilised dinosaur remains.
