Otahuna LodgeAt the head of a secluded valley on New Zealand’s South Island is a place of replenishment and refinement. It is a place where prestigious accommodation meets exemplary service and cuisine in the context of an elegant, historic country estate. Otahuna Lodge is an intimate exclusive retreat set in an 1895 New Zealand mansion surrounded by 30 acres of its own botanic gardens.
An intimate retreat that offers 5 suites and 2 master suites. Each retains architectural features from the 19th century such as ornate original fireplaces and stained glass windows. All suites offer super king beds, fine custom-made linens, toiletries by Penhaligon’s of London, deep bathtubs and separate rain showers.
The spectacular 110-year old gardens of Otahuna were laid out and cultivated under the direction of A. E. Lower who trained at Kew Gardens, London. Wide vistas over lawn and lake contrast beautifully with intimate walks which wind through heavily wooded areas. An organic vegetable garden and original orchard offer the finest ingredients for the estate’s kitchens.
The cuisine celebrates the best of seasonal New Zealand produce. Dinner is a five course chef’s degustation menu which changes daily. Honest, uncluttered flavours, the finest local ingredients and elegantly restrained presentation are the hallmarks of the Otahuna table.
Situated at the base of the Banks Peninsula, Otahuna Lodge is only 20 minutes’ drive from the city centre of Christchurch, making it the ideal place from which to explore Canterbury. Wineries, private gardens, championship golf, world-class fishing and even the world’s rarest dolphins are all just a short drive - or helicopter ride - from the front door.
