298 Oriental Bay

298 Oriental Bay

Built in 1928 in the style of a Parisian townhouse, 298 Oriental Parade was the Japanese Embassy for about 30 years. It has been in the Bilbie family since 1980. It now offers two ensuite guestrooms – the Summer House with open fire (perfect for honeymooners) and the Forget Me Not Room. Set in a private walled garden featuring a pond and fountain, 298 provides water’s edge harbour and city views from the main lounge and library, and guests can enjoy watching sunsets from the balconies.

Original ornate plaster ceilings, stained glass windows and wood panelling feature throughout. Complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres are offered in the evening, and a full breakfast is served each morning. Lunch and dinner are also available. The airport is 10 minutes’ drive away and City Centre just two minutes. The perfect place to base yourselves if you wish to walk around Wellington, as Te Papa and the Courtenay Place restaurants are just a short 10 minute walk away.
